Yambaru Area Tourist Facilities
Daisekirinzan

Daisekirinzan

Daisekirinzan is a place to communicate with nature that extends to a mythical Ryukyuan forest.
Unlike the rugged appearance of the mountains of Asumori, which have been passed down as a sacred place since ancient times and can be seen from Cape Hedo, once you step into the mountains, you will find yourself in a paradise where you can commune with subtropical nature. The walking course of Daisekirinzan has various faces of oddly shaped rocks and boulders, subtropical forests, and panoramic views, and reaches a forest in Ryukyu Mythology.
The trekking course is easy to walk for everyone in the family, from children to the elderly, so there is no need to worry. Barrier-free facilities are also available so that visitors can more deeply enjoy the nature experience.

Canoes and standing paddle boats (SUP) are available at the Fukuji River on the mountainside. This is a great place to enjoy the nature of Higashi-son and is recommended for families.

Tsutsuji Eco Park

Tsutsuji Eco Park

Tsutsuji (Azalea) Eco Park is a campground surrounded by nature in Okinawa. In addition to camping, visitors can play in the river, golf, harvest pineapples, and canoe. In addition, as a "learning" experience, visitors can try outdoor and environmental learning while walking through the Yambaru forest or try their hand at making Okinawa's famous sataa andagi (Okinawan dough) or pineapple jam. Tsutsuji Eco Park has both a camping car park and a camping park. Large camping equipment such as tents and tarps can be rented, as well as small items such as lanterns, tables, and tableware, so even families visiting from outside the prefecture, couples, and beginner campers can easily enjoy camping in Okinawa with minimal preparation. Bring your foodstuff with you.

Fureai Hirugi Park

Fureai Hirugi Park

Higashi-son is an area rich in the precious nature of Yambaru and is also famous for its various eco-tours. One of the most representative spots is the "Higashi-son Fureai (Contact) Hirugi Park" in Gesashi. It is a park with a river flowing through it where mangroves grow in clusters. "Mangroves" are a group of plants that grow in subtropical rivers where fresh water and seawater mix. It looks like the entrance to a jungle in the Amazon. The mangroves are home to an abundance of crabs, such as the rice cracker crab and the blue-spotted mud crab, as well as many wild birds preying on the crabs, such as kingfishers, red kingfishers, and egrets. Mangroves are a treasure trove of living creatures. Hirugi is one of the plants found in mangroves. Higashi-son Fureai Hirugi Park is a precious place where three species of hirugi, a natural treasure, grow wild: the Mexile-leaved bush clover, the Oriental white bush clover, and the Yaeyamahirugi, a species designated as a protected species.

Yambaru Discovery Forest

Yambaru Discovery Forest

The forests of Yambaru are home to many rare plants and animals, and are called "miracle forests". The Yambaru Discovery Forest provides support for visitors to comfortably experience the "awareness, healing, and learning" that can be obtained from the nature of Yambaru. The forest is divided into two zones: the "Play Zone" and the "Learning Zone".
●Play Zone
The Play Zone includes a trailer park, an athletic field, and Kitaro House, where children and adults alike can do a wide range of activities centered on experiencing nature and outdoor activities.
●Learning Zone
The Learning Zone is a place where visitors can make new discoveries through the observation of plants, with a lodge, an exhibition room where you can learn about the forest ecosystem, and a nature trail. Also, you can eat meals using ingredients and other foods unique to Okinawa, and the restaurant's balcony deck offers a panoramic view of the World Natural Heritage mountains: highly recommended.

Okinawa Rail Ecology Exhibition and Learning Facility

Okinawa Rail Ecology Exhibition and Learning Facility

This facility allows visitors to observe the ecology of the Okinawa rail (type of bird), a national protected species that is difficult to see in the wild.
The facility has a reference booth where visitors can learn about the ecology and environmental conditions of the Okinawa rail, and an observation booth that reproduces the actual habitat of the rail in the facility.
The Okinawa rail in the booths are very service-oriented and come out in front of visitors to show their charm and bathe in the water, making this a valuable place to observe them up close, as in the wild they hide when they sense the presence of people.

Yambaru Roadside Station, Pineapple Hill, Aha

Yambaru Roadside Station, Pineapple Hill, Aha

It is the 10th "Michi no Eki," or roadside station in Okinawa Prefecture, and the second in Kunigami Village, following "Yui Yui Kunigami".
Our concept of this "Michi no Eki" is the "Michi" station. In Japanese, "Michi" is for road, "Mi" is for fruit, seeing, and future and "Chi" is for land and knowledge. So, "Michi no Eki" is a place where you can experience the nature, food, and culture of the Yambaru area, which has been registered as a World Natural Heritage site. The facility includes a "cafe and sales area" where local products such as pineapples are used, an "observation building" where visitors can observe the unique flora and fauna of Yambaru, a "co-working space" supporting local stays such as training and vacations, and a "Yambaru Hill Swing" on the rooftop where visitors can soak in the original landscape of Okinawa while feeling the breeze.
